Strassburg Night Splint – Plantar Fasciitis
The Strassburg SockTM is designed as a supplemental treatment for heel pain from Plantar Fasciitis. Its purpose is to provide an involuntary nightly assistance to your established daily treatment.
Precautions: If you have a known circulatory problem, open sores, are a diabetic or are pregnant, if you have swelling or severe edema, if you have hammer toes, if you have an active rash or severe dermatitis, or any recent trauma to the foot or foot surgery, please consult your physician prior to using this product.
How does the “Strassburg Sock” work?
This easy to use, inexpensive device is designed to keep tension on the tissue (plantar fascia) so it heals in a stretched position at night. In this way many users find a reduction of their morning pain, some have noticed a reduced recovery time and yet others have reduced the need for medications.
When worn as prescribed, it does not allow the plantar fascia to contract while in the prone or supine position. The device holds the ankle and forefoot joints in a position of slight dorsiflexion that prevents a position of plantarflexion, that is the plantar fascia is not allowed to contract.
In addition the involuntary stretching of the plantar fascia over a long period of time helps to strengthen the foot’s arch.
What is the “Strassburg Sock”?
The device consists of a tubular knit material that fits “over the calf” with 2 attached adjustable straps to maintain the foot in a neutral to slightly stretched position. When worn at night the device will apply a force which results in the reduction and/or elimination of the pain felt during those first steps in the morning.
What are the advantages of the “Strassburg Sock”?
- It is very easy to use.
- It does not lock the ankle joint into any one position thus allowing some movement between the various joints preventing possible joint compression pain.
- It can be safely worn for several hours without adverse effect when applied properly.
- It can be worn to bed, provides no significant restrictions and will not interrupt normal sleep if worn as directed.
- It is an effective device providing low cost relief of heel spur symptoms.
- It can reduce/eliminate the pain experienced with the first morning steps.
- It can, over a period of time, strengthen the arch of the foot.
- It can supplement and not interfere with the various traditional doctor’s treatment.

First disconnect all hooks and loop assemblies. While sitting in a chair, pull the sock on and stretch it up completely over the calf with the “D” ring facing the front . If the sock extends above the knee simply pull it up above the knee as far as it will go. Then pulling from the center of the sock, slide it down until the “D” ring is positioned just below the knee.
Secure the upper strap behind the calf by means of the attached Velcro. This strap should fit snug and secure but not so tight as to cause discomfort or cut off circulation. This strap provides the base for the support which will keep the sock properly positioned during sleep.
With your foot flat on the floor and your ankle at 90 degrees to the floor, take the strap attached to the toe of the sock and pass it thru the “D” ring’ from the bottom to the top
Pull the toes up approximately 1/2 to 1 inch off the floor. Now attach the Velcro pieces and the toes should remain in that position. Do not pull the toes upward too tightly as this over-extension will cause discomfort.
While we anticipate no problems, if you should experience any discomfort while using the Strassburg SockTM, please discontinue use immediately and contact your physician.
